The 7 must haves in the OneStream XF Marketplace

OneStream XF Market Place makes the platform a good match for almost everyone. A broad range of business goals and requirements can be achieved with these solutions. It is hard to make the right choice out of the amount of solutions, because how do you pick the right ones? Marc Roest shares the 7 solutions in the Market Place you shouldn’t miss.

When scrolling through the Market Place and working with the solutions, there are actually a few that should be included in every application. In Marc’s opinion, these are the 7 must haves:

1. Excel Add-In Installer (PV430-SV100)

OneStream Excel Add-ins are one of the most used extensions to the platform. Financial users know how to work with Excel and they can easily integrate data from their OneStream application in their reports, utilizing one-version-of-the-truth throughout the organization. The Excel add-in is a separate installer that is included in the installation but not yet on the users’ local machine. To provide the users and make sure everybody uses the appropriate version, there is a Market Place solution allowing the users to download the installer directly from OneStream.

After importing the solution, the Administrator can upload the required Excel Add-In version (and OneStream Studio if required) via the Settings page. After that, it is available for the users to download via the dashboard:

The only disadvantage is that it is quite a large file (128 Mb) so the download could take some time depending on the speed of your server and connection.

2. Standard System Reports (PV430-SV102)

The Standard System Reports contains a set of reports. This can be used for basic admin reporting, which makes the administrator duties easier. The following reports are available:

Application List

List of applications for this environment

App Server Activity Review

Graphically representation of Utilization and Processing time by type and module

Software Version Audit Report

The software version of the application server by date

Security Activity Dashboard

Graphical overview of logon activity in total and by module. Also added/deleted/updated users.

Archived Task Activity

List of archived tasks

These reports are available under under System-Dashboards, because the reports are used by the Administrator. The standard system reports can be imported via the Load/ Extract function. Please note that previous installed versions must be removed manually since they cannot be overwritten.

3. Standard Cube View Styles (PV410-SV100)

Cube Views are the main source for presenting the data to the users. Even though they are easy to set up, formatting the possibilities are never-ending. Creating and using Cube View styles results in a professional and consistent look and feel in your application. The Cube View stylesheets can be used to formatting your Cube Views., OneStream has already created a set of pre-defined Cube View styles to avoid work. This can be downloaded from the Market Place.

After importing, the styles appear in a Dashboard Maintenance Unit to be used in your Cube Views:

4. Standard Application Reports (PV440-SV100)

The Standard Application Reports contains a standard set of reports, like the System Reports. However, the reports in this solution are aimed at the user. There are 5 report categories available:

  • Application Analysis
  • Intercompany Matching
  • Journal Detail
  • Transformation Rule Change
  • Workflow Status

The Standard Application Reports requires access to Ancillary tables. If that has not been done yet, this needs to be setup by your (technical) administrator or installation partner. After that you import the zip file, you can open the dashboard where you can create the tables and then launch the solution.

The best way is to start with the Reports Overview page. This page illustrates a description of each available report. These reports can directly be opened from the dashboard by selecting a report group and then the desired report.

This solution can be broadly used, because of the many reports available. For example: you often see a specific topic with multiple reports from a slightly different perspective or with an additional level of detail.

5. Default Map Templates (PV410-SV100)

The default Map Templates is one of the smallest solutions. Therefore, this might look an impractical solution. However, Marc Roest finds them very useful in cases where the user is loading data from source systems that data needs to be mapped (source format to target format). During testing or implementing new locations, the user often wants a quick-and-dirty mapping to test how the data comes through. This download contains Excel templates with ‘pass through’ mappings for all dimensions. The big advantage is that these mappings can be imported directly instead of typing it in.

6. Security Audit Report (PV430-SV102)

These standard reports show insight in user-security and group information for audit purposes. In a production EPM system you want to audit your user access periodically. This Market Place solution offers reports that can be run over a specified period to be signed off by the authorized person as a solid basis for your security audit.

The dashboard already shows some high-level information. When selecting one of the items, the associated reports show in the main screen like below:

7. Task Manager (UTM)

The Task Manager (UTM) solution is one of the most popular Market Place solutions. With UTM workflows can be organized inside and outside of OneStream XF. Why is this solution so popular? And how does it help you to get more out of your OneStream XF software? In the next two blogs Marc Roest dives into the details of UTM. Can it live up to its fame?

Conclusion

All described solutions are quickly configurable and therefore classify as plug and play (see earlier post 0.5 – Introduction to the OneStream XF Market Place about classifications). In this blog Marc Roest didn’t mention pros and cons per solution, because he thinks these solutions should be included in every OneStream application. Aside from saving time, these must haves really help to get more out of your OneStream platform.
